Phnom Penh, August 3, 2025 — Thy Sovantha has been officially removed from her position as Deputy Governor of Ari Ksach City in Kandal Province, following a directive issued by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha on Sunday morning.
The action came shortly after a public announcement by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), who declared Thy Sovantha’s expulsion from the ruling party and her removal from all government positions, citing repeated misconduct on social media.
“We have no time to educate undisciplined officials when national affairs demand our immediate attention,” Techo Hun Sen wrote on his official social media account. “Time and again, Thy Sovantha has posted inappropriate messages. I personally called her a few days ago and asked her to delete two such posts. Today, she again posted content that disrespects the army while it is defending national territory.”
Techo Hun Sen stated that he had instructed Kuoch Chamroeun, Chairman of the CPP’s Kandal Provincial Committee, to expel Sovantha from the party. He also directed Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha to remove her from her government role and strip her of all state positions.
“As the President of the ruling party, I have both the right and the responsibility to maintain discipline among party members,” he added.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed the dismissal in an official statement issued shortly after the announcement. The decision marks a swift and decisive response to what the CPP leadership viewed as conduct unbecoming of a public official.
Thy Sovantha, a former social media activist turned government official, had previously drawn public scrutiny for her controversial online post
